An abandoned BMW M3 which has become a new home for 3 mice (3M)
Modelkit BMW M3 from Tamiya
Scale 1/24
This project started with that I was to learn how to carve out details from a car model as a preparation to another upcoming car project (read DeLorean). So, after some discussions with some members in the Swedish Model Scale Group, I had couple of options, and the technique I went for was the backside of the blade for an exacto knife.
So next was to choose the victim, and my hubby had a BMW M3 scale 1/24, a very simple model, with little details and no engine, that I got hold of.
I started to carve out the sunroof, and this was a lot harder than I thought it was. The plastic was like Bakelite, and I thought this is not right, so I turned to test on another car model. Carving in the new model, a Morris Mini Copper Racing, was like carving in butter in comparison. So, by pure determination I carved out the sunroof and the driver’s door. Success! As it took about 4 hours to carve these details out, an idea was getting into place - why not rust this M3 up and make an abandoned car in an outdoor environment.
The two front seats where divided so I could position them better and get them more a worn look.
I used the Green Stuff World’s Rust to get the rust effects, then different washes / weathering techniques on top.
A base made from a kitchen bamboo lid (Clas Ohlson), where I added green stuff and outdoor weeds (the small tree with yellow flowers).
During the build process, I felt that it missed something, so three mice was added – a M3 becomes a home to 3M.
Note: 2023 I applied to participate in an Art show called Vår Salong, and this diorama together with the fighter plane Republic Thunderbolt P47-D were selected. From May 28 to June 18 is was in display at Kulturhotellet in Helsingborg, Sweden.
